24. Najib Mikati – $3 billion
Najib Mikati served as the Prime Minister of Lebanon between 2011 and 2013.
Although short-lived, his term was marked by ample efforts to keep the previously battered country out of the Syrian conflict, while also avoiding further division on a sectarian line. Mikati resigned because he felt trapped and had to choose between pro-Assad and anti-Assad camps. He failed to accomplish the campaign promise of liberating the remaining Israeli-held lands.
The richest man in Lebanon made his fortune by investing in communications. In 2006, he sold Investcom for a reported sum of $5.5 billion. Nonetheless, he had to share the spoils equally with his brother.
