46. Al-Waleed bin Talal – $20 billion
Al-Waleed bin Talal is a wealthy politician guaranteed to stick in your mind.
The self-proclaimed “Arabian Warren Buffet” might be closely related to the Saudi royal family and even held the title of “prince,” but his way of doing things is very different from the norm. To start with, bin Talal is an avid supporter of women emancipation in the Arab world. Second, he pledged to follow the example set by Western philanthropists and to donate all his fortune to charity.
Something bugs Al-Waleed bin Talal is not the constant fluctuation of oil prices. The 62-year-old is disappointed because Forbes miscalculated his fortune to “just” $20 million. The founder and 95-percent owner of Kingdom Holding Company went as far as to sue the publication, claiming he owns no less than $32 billion.
Should we take his word for granted?
